SaharaRelief will work in partnership with African communities to improve access to quality maternal and child healthcare. Our goal is to provide healthcare in accordance with the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1978, which identifies primary healthcare as the key to achieving "Health for All". Under the Declaration, primary healthcare includes the following:
- education concerning prevailing health problems and the methods of preventing and controlling them;
- an adequate supply of safe water and basic sanitation;
- maternal and child health care, including family planning;
- immunization against the major infectious diseases; prevention and control of locally endemic diseases;
- appropriate treatment of common diseases and injuries; and
- provision of essential drugs/medications.
